Aug 10 - USA - Lisbon Board your overnight transatlantic flight to Lisbon. Dinner and breakfast
are served on board.
Aug 11 Lisbon – Fatima Arrive Lisbon. Meet your tour guide After an orientation drive through Lisbon,
we stop and visit St. Anthony's Church. Despite what might be assumed from his name, Saint Anthony
was born and grew up in Lisbon. Traditionally, the invocation of his name is considered the best means of
locating lost objects. Continue drive to Fatima, the place where the Blessed Mother appeared in 1917 to three simple
shepherd children and exhorted mankind to pray for world peace. After settling into your hotel, you may relax or participate
in a candlelight procession
Aug 12-13 Fatima Six times, from the May 13 to October 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared to three novices belonging to the diocese of Leiria. A new big basilica is under construction, however just as beautiful, an older basilica was
constructed here in 1928, and millions of pilgrims visit each year. Fatima is one of the most visited holy places for Catholics from around the world. The atmosphere of intense spirituality and the importance of Fatima have been attested to by the visits of two Popes:
Paul VI and
John Paul II. Touring Fatima, see the Little Chapel of the Apparitions, Basilica, the site of Francesco and Jacinta's graves,
the Hamlet of Aljustrel, where the children lived, and Valinhos, the site of Our Lady's appearance after the children's return
from prison. Follow the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra
(The Sacred Way) culminating in the Chapel of Calvary, which overlooks
all of Fatima. Join pilgrims from around the world in an evening candlelight procession to pray the rosary. Bring a white
handkerchief, for the Adeus farewell, a loving wave farewell to the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary. You will spend these
two nights in Fatima.
Aug 14 Fatima -Santarem – Fatima This morning after breakfast we leave Fatima and drive to the town of Santarem,
one of the oldest cities in the world. We will walk through its narrow streets to the Church of St Stephen, containing the
oldest recorded Eucharistic miracle. This miracle has been on continuous display since 1269. Afterwards we will return to
Fatima for dinner and overnight.
Aug 15 Fatima - Batalha - Nazaret – Fatima The construction of the Abbey of Santa
Maria da Vitória at Batalha commenced in 1388, and was later added to and enhanced by the various Portuguese Kings over these next two centuries. Located proudly in a valley this imposing
structure is an outstanding example of combined Gothic and Manueline architecture. Under its naves lies some of Portugal’s
most historic personalities during that period When the King Dom Fernando I died without an heir to the throne it was
claimed by both his illegitimate brother Dom João I and Juan de Castile of Spain on behalf of his wife. On the
14th of August of that year the outnumbered army of Dom João I
commanded by an outstanding general, Nuno Álvares Pereira, faced the Spanish forces just south of the present site
of the Abbey. It is said that on the eve of the battle Dom João made a vow to construct an unforgettable church in
memory of the Virgin Mary should he succeed in battle the next day.
Aug 16 Fatima - Coimbra - Pontevedra/Tuy Leave Fatima this morning to being the journey of Sr. Lucia. After time in Porto she went to Tuy, where she received the Habit and the
name Maria Lucia of Dolours. On 25 March 1948 she transferred to Coimbra,
entering the Carmel of Saint Teresa, and taking name the of Sister Maria
Lucia of the Immaculate Heart. The ancient church of Santo Domingo is a must on any tourist’s itinerary as is the modern church of San Francisco. The Claretian
convent, las "Encerradas", and the Capilla de la Misericordia are also worth paying a visit to. Portuguese Baroque makes its influence felt in the church of San
Telmo, the patron saint of the city. We will make our way to Pontevedra/Tuy
for dinner and overnight.
Aug 17 Pontevedra/Tuy
Pontevedra is the capital of the province of the same name, which also contains the much larger city of Vigo. It is one of
the four provinces in Galicia. Connoiseurs often rate it as the most impressive place in southern Galicia. Tui has a legendary
origin, explained by its privileged location on a hill and next to the Portuguese border by the River Miño. This has given
the city a pattern of streets winding slowly and harmoniously down
towards the river. Tui Cathedral-Fortress, the cathedral was converted into a fortress studded with battlements, as a result of frequent invasions.
It was begun in the 12th century in Romanesque style with influences from Compostela. This was then superseded by an early, French-inspired Gothic, the best example of which is the main façade. A spacious
cloister was built in the southern part.
Aug 18 Pontevedra/Tuy - Porto –
Fatima This morning wake up in Ponteverda/Tuy for breakfast. Travel to Porto to see where Sister Lucia entered the college
of Vilar , directed by the religious of Saint Dorothy. Afterwards we will make our way to the blessed Fatima for dinner
and overnight.
Aug 19 Fatima Enjoy a free overnight for rest, relaxation, prayer, and reflection. Dinner and overnight
in Fatima.
Aug 20 Fatima - Alba de Tormes
– Avila "city of stones, city of saints" After breakfast depart for Avila. On the way to Avila we stop in Alba de Tormes, where St. Teresa
of Avila is buried. Arrive Avila in time for dinner and overnight.
Aug 21 Avila – Garabandal Here atmosphere has changed very little since the days of St. Teresa of Jesus, to whom the city is dedicated. St. Teresa the great my
stic, was
the first woman to be named a Doctor of the Church. In Avila we will visit: the Cathedral, which contains many of St.
Teresa relics; The crypt of the Convento of La Santa, built on the site of the house where she was born, is home to the most
comprehensive museum dedicated to her life, and La Encarnacion Convent, the first convent she found. We then depart for the small town of Garabandal.
Aug 22 Garabandal Little has changed in this rural town since June 18, 1961 when four children had an apparition first
of an Angel sent to prepare the children for a visit from the Virgin. From July 2, 1961 sporadically until November 13, 1965,
the Blessed Virgin visited them, speaking, guiding and confiding secrets
of future events. The children reported a promised future miracle at the grove of pine trees on a bluff overlooking the village
of Garabandal. It will be on the feast-day of a little known martyr
of the Eucharist and coincide with an event in the Church. During your stay you will have time for reflection, devotions and
follow the Stations of the Cross. Speak with villagers who witnessed the apparitions, attend Mass and bask in
the tranquility. Return motor coach trip to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
